How to Find All Email Addresses in a Google Sheets Spreadsheet
A common task is needing to find all email addresses in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. This usually happens when a spreadsheet is shared with you after it’s already been formatted and populated and you need to extract all email addresses from it. This can be pretty time consuming if you have to do it manually. Using the Add to Sheets extension, you can easily extract all email addresses from a Google Sheets spreadsheet in just a few clicks.
👋 The Pattern Match finder feature is available in the Pro version of Add to Sheets. You can upgrade to the Pro version by clicking on the Upgrade to Pro button in the extension.
Find email all addresses in Google Sheets
In Add to Sheets Pro, you can use the Pattern Finder feature to extract all email addresses from websites in seconds, including email addresses from a Google Sheet spreadsheet. Here’s how to do it:
- Install the Add to Sheets Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the Google Sheet spreadsheet that you want to extract email addresses from.
- Click on the Add to Sheets icon in the Chrome toolbar.
- Log in with Google if you haven’t already.
- Click on Find matches in the extension in the Matches section.
- In the Pattern Finder section, select the Email pattern.
- Click on Find a pattern > Email Addresses
The extension will automatically extract all email addresses from the Google Sheets spreadsheet and display them in the Matches section.
Extracted email addresses from a Google Sheets spreadsheet. The line numbers are shown because the Show line numbers option is enabled in the extension settings.
👋 After installing the extension, you’ll need to refresh any already open tabs to use the extension on those pages. This is because the extension needs to load on the page to be able to extract data from it.
Duplicate email addresses
If you have duplicate email addresses in the Google Sheets spreadsheet, the extension will only extract each email address once. This means that you won’t have to worry about removing duplicates from the extracted email addresses.
Sorting email addresses
The extension does not sort the extracted email addresses. Why? Because Google Sheets is a powerful tool for sorting and managing data. If you need to sort the email addresses, you can configure the extension and save them to Google Sheets to use the built-in sorting features of Google Sheets.
New email addressed added to the Google Sheet
If new email addresses are added to the Google Sheets spreadsheet after you’ve extracted email addresses from it, you’ll need to refresh the page (CMD + Shift + R
) and click on Find matches again to extract the new email addresses. This is because the extension needs to load on the page to be able to extract data from it.
