Save Text Content From Sites to Google Sheets
The goal of the Add to Sheets extension has always been to make it as easy as possible to save text content from websites over to Google Sheets. We wanted the user experience to be as seamless as possible to save content quickly and get back to what you’re doing.
Just right-click and save.
If you want to save text content from websites then you can use the Add to Sheets extension by selecting the text (or highlighting it) and right-clicking to save it to your Google Sheets spreadsheet. It shouldn’t be more complicated than that.
Right-click and save to your Sheets
Once the content is in your spreadsheets, you can use other formulas, functions, or integrations to categorize or merge the content with other data. One example is using VLOOKUP to match the text content with other data in your spreadsheet.
Saving highlighted text to Google Sheets
Once you have the extension installed and set up, you can highlight text on a website and save it to your Google Sheets spreadsheet. This is great for content collection or for saving ideas or notes for later.
Saving an entire article to Google Sheets
Maybe you want to save all of the content? Select all the text on the page and right-click to save it to Google Sheets. This is useful for saving articles, blog posts, or other long-form content that you want to reference later. This will save the entire page in one cell in Google Sheets. You may need to clean up the text or format depending on the content and how it’s displayed on the page once it’s in Google Sheets.
Saving a blog post to Google Sheets
If you’re a content creator or blogger, you can use the extension to save blog posts to Google Sheets. This is useful for keeping track of your content, saving ideas for future posts, or analyzing the content for SEO or keyword research. Pro tip: This is also useful for saving recipes and exercise routines from blogs or websites 🚀
Saving highlighted text from email to Google Sheets
If you use web-based email clients like Gmail, you can save highlighted text from emails to Google Sheets. This is useful for keeping notes, saving contact information, or building out an email subscriber list.
Highlighting and saving an email address from Gmail
Note: The extension will be in the context menu when you right-click on the highlighted text. Some email clients (and applications) may override the context menu with their options. If you’re having trouble saving the highlighted text, you can try selecting the text and right-clicking in a different area of the page to see if native context menu options are available.
Save social media posts to Google Sheets
Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and LinkedIn have a lot of content that you might want to save for later. You can save the entire page view in one go or highlight specific text to save to Google Sheets.
If you’re using Instagram, TikTok, or Threads on a desktop browser, you can save the text content from the posts to Google Sheets. This is a huge time saver if you’re a UGC content creator or social media manager who needs to keep track of posts, potential collaborations, or repurpose content into other formats. Below is an example on the Threads app.
If you want to add images to your Google Sheets, you can use the extension to save images from websites into the spreadsheet column. Or, if you want to find all of the links or email addresses from the page, you can use the extension to save those as well.
Wrapping up
Usually, you would need to copy the text, switch over to Google Sheets, and paste it into a cell. You can skip the tab switching and pasting with the extension by selecting the text and right-clicking to save it to Google Sheets. It’s a handy tool for saving content especially if this is something that you’re doing frequently - like saving articles, blog posts, or highlighted text from emails.
To get started, install the Add to Sheets extension from the Chrome Web Store. Once the extension is installed, you can start saving text content from websites to Google Sheets.
