Save YouTube Video Transcripts to Google Sheets

If you want to save a YouTube video transcript to Google Sheets, you can do it without leaving the video page or switching tabs. This post will show you how to get a transcript of a YouTube video if it’s available and save it to Google Sheets using the Add to Sheets Chrome extension.

This is helpful if you want repurpose the video content, create a blog post from the video content, or even translate the video content into another language.

How to get the transcript of a YouTube video

  1. Go to the YouTube video you want to get the transcript from.
  2. Click the video description box to expand it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the description box to find the Transcript section.

  1. Click the Show transcript button, and YouTube will scroll back up to the top of the page.

  1. The transcript will appear on the right side of the video (above), with the text highlighted as the video plays.

  2. You can click on any part of the transcript to jump to that part of the video and hight the text that you want to save.

  3. Save the transcript to Google Sheets using the Add to Sheets extension.

👋 You can toggle the transcript timestamps on and off by clicking the three dots in the top right corner of the transcript box.

Save YouTube transcripts to Google Sheets

Once you have the transcript open and visible on the video page, you can save it to Google Sheets using the Add to Sheets extension. Just right click on the highlighted text and select “Add to Sheets” from the menu and select the Google Sheets column you want to save the transcript to.

You may need to clean up the text or format depending on the quality of the transcript and if there are any mistakes in the text.

You can also save other text from the YouTube video page to the same Google Sheets spreadsheet, like the video title, or the description of the video.
